About

Hey, I’m Jay Espinal—a photographer, educator, and storyteller from Philadelphia. Photography has always been more than just pictures for me—it’s a way to connect with people, places, and stories that might otherwise slip by unnoticed.

I’ve spent the last few years building my work around one focal length: 28mm. That choice wasn’t accidental—it pushes me to get closer, to engage, and to frame the world in a way that feels immersive and honest. The 28mm perspective has shaped not just my images, but the way I see everyday life unfolding around me.

When I’m not on the street with a camera in hand, I’m teaching digital media production to high school students, sharing my passion for storytelling with the next generation of creatives. And through my YouTube channel, I bring people along on my journey with Leica cameras, documenting the creative process, the mistakes, and the lessons along the way.

This zine is the result of that journey—years of exploration, countless walks, and a commitment to staying curious. It’s more than just photos on paper—it’s proof that sometimes the simplest tools (one camera, one lens) can unlock the deepest stories.
